This is an industrial PhD position in partnership with the Uppsala-based company Percy Roc AB, a leader in AI-assisted microwave heating technology. The company provides AI-driven technology and customer-oriented hardware solutions for industrial heating processes. Percy Roc was founded in 2018 as a spin-off from the Ångström Laboratory at Uppsala University. The company aims to implement its microwave technology across multiple areas, including battery materials, where several projects are already underway. Project Focus and Opportunities
Percy Roc is looking for a motivated and ambitious student who wants to pursue PhD studies with both industry and academia. You will work on a project aimed at developing new energy-efficient heating processes that address several areas of the battery value chain. Percy Roc’s microwave technology will be implemented in the synthesis of battery materials for both lithium and sodium-ion batteries, in electrode drying, and in the regeneration of spent battery materials. Additionally, during the PhD program, you will use a wide range of material characterization techniques—including advanced spectroscopic, imaging, and structural determination methods, as well as electrochemical techniques—to gain a deep understanding of the physical and chemical processes involved in microwave heating.
The main responsibility of the PhD candidate is to conduct research, which includes project studies and completing PhD courses related to the research project. The selected candidate is expected to carry out high-quality research as part of a team, with the goal of disseminating the resulting work through high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and at national and international conferences. The project will be carried out at both Uppsala University and Percy Roc, in close collaboration with colleagues at both locations.
Basic Qualifications
The candidate must have:
been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
have completed at least 240 credits in higher education, with at least 60 credits at Master’s level including an independent project worth at least 15 credits, or
acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
very good oral and written proficiency in English.
a second-cycle degree or equivalent as above in chemistry, physics or materials science.



Preferred Skills and Experience
knowledge of electrochemical energy storage systems, preferably with previous experience of working with or studying such systems, is valuable
previous experience with materials characterisation in work or thesis project is an advantage
previous experience or knowledge of microwave heating and/or materials synthesis is a merit
previous experience working in an industry setting or developing instrumentation is a merit
excellent communication, dissemination and outreach skills are a merit
excellent grades from second-cycle education are a merit

PR is looking for a highly motivated Radiofrequency (RF) engineer to develop and validate RF/MW devices. The candidate will work directly with cutting-edge RF technology and power electronics, helping our customers succeed. As an RF engineer, the candidate will prepare product and system layouts, including detailed drawings and schematics, and ensure products meet EMC, environmental, and safety compliance requirements. This position will also involve working closely with strategic, market-leading customers to validate early development concepts and prototypes from both technical and market applicability perspectives.

This role involves working throughout the entire system engineering life cycle, including conception, defining and analyzing requirements, system design, realization, integration, verification, acceptance, and support. You will analyze operational and technical requirements and coordinate them with the customer. Additionally, you will identify market and competition trends and actively shape our product and pricing policy. The successful candidate is expected to take an active role in the daily operations of the company, enhancing PR solution sales.


Basic requirements:
• Master in Electronics engineering or equivalent through experience;
• Qualified experience in RF design;
• Experience in 3D electromagnetic simulation software for RF/antenna design;
• Prior experience with RF laboratory equipments;
• Basic knowledge of wireless communications theory;
• Knowledge about antennas and wave propagation;
• Take initiative, open minded and eager to learn new things;
• Analytical way of thinking and structured way of working and endurance in debugging of complex problems/tasks;

RESPONSIBILITIES
The core responsibility of the candidate is to design and implement software based solutions tailored for microwave heating systems.
