We have an exciting opportunity for a European Patent Attorney (EPA) to work with our expert Intellectual Property team of twentyfive+ employees across the world. The role will be onsite in Uppsala, Sweden and report into Cytiva’s IP Leader for Hardware Solutions.
As a European Patent Attorney, you will be intimately involved in building and implementing the IP strategy for protecting some of Cytiva’s core product portfolios relating to a range of system platforms and software applications for the bioprocess industry. This will cover all aspects from collaborating closely with R&D and business colleagues in building world class IP protection, to execution of global IP litigations. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Proficiency with other languages is considered a plus.
Experience of devising innovative IP strategies.
Good commercial awareness.
Knowledge of laws, regulations, practices and procedures relating to patent procurement in Europe, US and Asia.

As a Patent Specialist, you will manage and protect Antaros Medical’s IP portfolio, including handling of patents and licenses, and overall assist VP Innovation and Patents with tasks related to patents, intellectual property and relationship management. You will be responsible for handling patent applications in different jurisdictions and for collaborations with different agencies. In addition, you will also be internally responsible for first-hand IP support and coordination.

Your main responsibilities will be:

- Efficient management of our patent portfolio and licensed patents
- Support the overall IP strategy
- Support general patent and IP-related questions
- Prior art searches
- IP landscape monitoring
- Competition and Freedom to Operate analyses
- Support in-house innovation mining


Additional responsibilities could include:

- Patent application writing
- Research and development to support patent applications
- Education of internal staff regarding patents and IP


Who are we looking for?

We believe that you have solid experience from previous work at one or several patent agencies, with significant work experience and proven knowledge of patents and patent applications. Your background might suggestively include public patent experience from PRV, as well as corporate experience, such as from consultancy.

As a person, you are supportive, communicative, and keen on engaging with colleagues as well as external contacts. You are characterized by flexibility and attentiveness towards your surroundings and have a collaborative mindset. In addition, we believe that you have analytical skills, the mindset of accuracy and details, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering such as physics, computer science, chemistry, material science, or equivalent
- Three years solid work experience of patents
- Professional English language skills


It is meritorious if you have previous work experience of patent applications related to IT, image analysis, MedTech, chemistry or PET tracers, and/or have patent agent qualifications or have a higher educational degree.

It is further beneficial if you have knowledge in image analysis, or in the imaging modalities MRI, PET, and CT, or have programming skills.

UU Innovation har ett kontinuerligt inflöde av idéer inom life science och vi söker nu en patentingenjör med kunskap inom kemi och biologi.

Arbetsuppgifter:
Arbetet som patentingenjör inom life science innebär att i samarbete med innovationskontorets sökspecialist och affärsrådgivare analysera uppfinningar/forskningsresultat och idéer och ge affärsmässiga råd kring patent- och IP-strategier till idégivande forskare inom det specificerade området. Rollen innebär att kunna erbjuda service vad avser patenterbarhet, utformande av eventuella patentansökningar, IP-strategier och avtal samt att bidra med patentbyråkontakter. I uppgifterna ingår bl a att utföra patenterbarhetsanalyser. Att utbilda inom immaterialrätt och att hålla i seminarier är viktiga delar av arbetet då innovationskontoret arbetar proaktivt med IP-frågor i universitetets forskarvärld och i strategiska projekt. Arbetet har en tydlig patentinriktning men vi hanterar även andra immaterialrättsliga områden såsom varumärke, design och upphovsrätt. Arbetet sker i samverkan med bl a sökspecialist, affärsrådgivare, universitets jurister och annan nödvändig kompetens.

Kvalifikationskrav:
Du ska ha en akademisk utbildning inom för tjänsten relevant område i kombination med mångårig erfarenhet som patentombud inom industrin eller på en patentbyrå. Du ska själv ha handlagt patentansökningar och haft ett eget utredningsansvar. Du ska även vara uppdaterad kring myndighetskrav både nationellt och internationellt och med detta som grund i dialog med forskarna kunna presentera och rekommendera lämplig IP-strategi. Du ska självklart ha goda kunskaper i svenska och engelska och vara van att hålla muntliga presentationer. Som person är det viktigt att du har förmågan att skapa goda relationer och drivs av att skapa värde för våra kunder och samarbetspartners. Du ska samtidigt bidra till gruppens arbete kring universitetets verksamhet och mål. Du trivs med att arbeta både självständigt och tillsammans med andra. Du är en person som både värnar dina egna specialistkunskaper och är nyfiken på andras samt har en klart analytisk läggning. Vi lägger stor vikt vid den personliga lämpligheten och personliga egenskaper som initiativtagande, samarbetsförmåga och flexibilitet.

Önskvärt/meriterande i övrigt:
Det är meriterande om du själv är disputerad inom området och hemmastadd i forskarmiljöer. Vi ser även gärna att du har erfarenhet av strategiskt IP-arbete samt har erfarenhet av att hålla i utbildningsmoment. Det är meriterande om du har erfarenhet av avtalsjuridiska frågeställningar där IP finns med som grund.

UU Innovations uppdrag handlar om att stödja omvandlingen av forskningsresultat till nya tjänster, produkter, processer eller modeller, oavsett om det sker genom nya forskningsbaserade företag eller genom forskningssamarbeten med redan befintliga organisationer.

Vår kompetens inom UU Innovation består i att förstå såväl forskningens förutsättningar som förutsättningar för innovationer och forskningssamverkan. Vi är också en viktig ingång för företag och andra organisationer utanför universitet som söker specifik akademisk kompetens och samarbeten.

Arbetsuppgifter:
I tjänsten som sökspecialist ingår att utföra nyhetsgranskningar inom fr a biomedicinska och tekniska områden, definiera en sökstrategi, utföra fullständiga sökningar i lämpliga databaser och därefter strukturera, analysera och utvärdera funna dokument (patent, vetenskapliga artiklar mm). Resultatet ligger sedan till grund för den patenterbarhetsanalys av idén som patentrådgivare gör. Arbetet innebär att i samarbete med idégivande forskare, patent- och affärsrådgivare analysera uppfinningar/forskningsresultat och idéer, vars resultat kommer att ligga till grund för affärsmässiga råd kring patent- och IP-strategier. Då sökspecialisten tillsammans med affärs- eller patentrådgivare verkar i en första infångande roll kring vad idén handlar om är det viktigt att snabbt få en bild över hur att gå vidare med den föreslagna uppfinningen. Tjänsten ställer således stora krav på att snabbt förstå och att kunna analysera det nya och innovativa i de idéer som UUI utvärderar. Tillsammans med traditionella informationsverktyg, används vid detta arbete fr a patentdatabaser och specialiserade databaser inom vetenskap, teknik och medicin. Användningen av dessa databaser kräver en mångårig erfarenhet för ett optimalt resultat. Vidare innebär tjänsten att ha en övergripande helhetsbild av alla de drygt 100 idéer och uppfinningar som UUI årligen utvärderar. Att utbilda inom immaterialrätt och att hålla i seminarier är viktiga delar av arbetet då innovationskontoret arbetar proaktivt med IP-frågor i universitetets forskarvärld och i strategiska projekt.
