About the Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in CAD, CAM, CFD, and FEA to support the design, simulation, and optimization of advanced engineering systems within MG’s R&D projects. The role involves developing mechanical and thermal models using tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, ANSYS, and COMSOL, and translating concepts into validated engineering solutions through simulation and analysis. You will collaborate with international academic and industrial partners, contribute to technical documentation and performance evaluation, and support sustainability-focused projects in areas such as renewable energy and thermal systems. This position is ideal for a motivated engineer interested in applied research, multidisciplinary collaboration, and real-world engineering impact.
Key Responsibilities
Design and modify 3D CAD models using Creo and SolidWorks, supporting CAM simulations and prototyping.
Conduct CFD and multiphysics simulations (fluid, thermal, structural) using ANSYS and COMSOL
Run structural and thermal FEA to assess strength, deformation, and heat transfer
Analyze simulation results and translate them into design improvements
Prepare technical reports, drawings, and documentation
Collaborate with international academic and industrial partners
Contribute to Swedish, EU, and international research proposals in engineering, energy, and sustainability

Purpose of the role
The role combines advanced energy consulting with strategic communication. The employee is responsible for analysing and optimising energy systems for clients, developing decarbonisation roadmaps, and translating technical results into clear messages for internal and external stakeholders.
Main responsibilities
1. Technical energy consulting and analysis (approximately 70% of the role)
• Perform technical assessments of energy systems, including renewable generation, storage, and efficiency measures for industrial and commercial clients
• Develop energy and decarbonisation strategies, including scenario analysis, technology selection, and investment roadmaps
• Carry out quantitative analyses such as energy balance calculations, production forecasts, and impact assessments on cost, emissions, and risks
• Review and interpret technical documentation from suppliers and partners, and provide internal recommendations
• Prepare decision support material for management and clients, including technical memos, reports, and presentations
• Support project managers with technical input during the planning and implementation of energy projects
• Monitor relevant regulations, support schemes, and market trends in the energy field and translate them into practical implications for the company and its clients


2. Strategic communication and stakeholder engagement (approximately 30% of the role)
• Translate complex technical analyses into clear, accessible messages for non technical audiences, including clients, partners, and internal stakeholders
• Develop communication strategies and key messages related to the company energy and sustainability services
• Contribute to tenders and proposals by formulating value propositions, storytelling, and structured content that is consistent with the technical offer
• Create content such as articles, case studies, white papers, and presentations that showcase the company expertise in renewable energy and energy systems
• Support management and project teams with communication material for stakeholder meetings, workshops, and conferences
• Coordinate with marketing and communication colleagues to ensure technical accuracy and consistency in external communication related to energy projects
• Participate in client meetings and public events to present technical findings and represent the company in discussions on energy transition topic.


Required qualifications
• University degree at bachelor level or higher in engineering, preferably in energy, electrical engineering, electronics and communication, or a closely related field
• Several years of qualified professional experience in renewable energy, energy systems, or similar technical fields
• Documented experience of technical analysis and advisory work, for example energy studies, feasibility studies, or project development
• Very good ability to communicate complex technical topics in clear written and spoken English
• Experience of working in cross functional project teams with both technical and non technical stakeholders


Meritorious qualifications
• Experience from consulting, advisory, or client facing roles in the energy sector
• Experience from communication strategy, content creation, or brand positioning in a technical context

About the Job
The student will be incorporated into the RESILIENT Energy School PhD school, which a 125 MSEK project funded by Energymindigheten. 5 Universities and 30 companies take part in the project.
Both water and food supply, transport, health and medical care as well as communication and industry are dependent on energy. Without energy, no infrastructures or sectors can operate. Therefore, the energy sector is today's most critical infrastructure. A breakdown in parts of the energy sector leads to a negative impact on other infrastructure systems - and can lead to disaster situations. The transition to a more electrified, decentralized and digitized energy system with a high proportion of renewable energy brings many challenges but also opportunities. The overall research objective of the R&D project is to develop innovative technologies within solar PV and thermal industry to increase efficiency, cost-competitiveness, operational safety, to reduce environmental impact in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
This PhD project will be accomplished within the Resilient program and more specifically within the competence center of emerging solar technologies. The future energy system will be more diverse in terms of energy sources and flexibility for covering energy demands. One challenge is to match demand with available energy sources. This should open the market to increased penetration of renewable technologies, such as thermal solar energy. This project will perform an in depth evaluation of the role and possibilities of solar thermal energy solutions in a resilient energy system, with a focus on PVT collector design as well as system design and standardization. Additionally, this research project will have a strong focus on the already existing collector designs of the Uppsala start-up MG Sustainable Engineering AB.

Qualifications

The RES4Build is a 5 million € H2020 project with 15 other partners. MG has also received funding for RES4Live (www.res4live.eu). This project is under the H2020 Innovation Action (IA) and MG is one of 18 participants looking into renewable energy solutions for livestock farms in the EU (namely in four specific farms: Belgium, Italy, Germany and Greece). MG Sustainable Engineering AB is a young dynamic start-up based in Uppsala and with a strategic partnership with both the University of Gävle (HiG), Lumicum Foundation and Absolicon solar collector AB in Härnösand.
MG was launched in 2014, initially with a low level of activities. In 2018, MG started its first major project, RES4Build (www.res4build.eu), in which renewable solutions for buildings in the EU are studied.
The RES4Build is a 5 million € H2020 project distributed over 15 partners. MG is responsible for building and testing novel CPVT prototypes.
Today, MG has received its second large project: the RES4Live. This project has a 6 million euro budget under the H2020 Innovation Action (funding 70%). MG will be one of 18 participants looking into renewable energy solutions for livestock farms in the EU (namely in four specific farms: Belgium, Italy, Germany and Greece). MG´s role will be to design and install both the PVT and PV systems in those farms over the four years of the project. Additionally, MG will design and build a prefabricated PVT system feed-in station.
